Biometrics
Leveraging the flexibility and security of HID iCLASS smart cards, biometric templates such as fingerprints, iris or hand geometry, or vein patterns are securely stored on the card. From access control to time and attendance, storing templates on the card provides convenient and reliable multi-factor authentication.
Biometric templates are securely stored on iCLASS credentials, not in the biometric readers, making iCLASS contactless smart cards portable databases that are well suited for installations spanning multiple sites. Storing the template on the card simplifies system start-up and enables the support of unlimited user populations. It also eliminates the redundant wiring requirement for biometric template management, significantly lowering installation costs.
An alternative to storing the biometric template on the card is the storage of templates in the reader, on servers, and/or in individual panels. This would be necessary for users of proximity or magnetic stripe cards, which are unable to store the template.
