HID Global Introduces CEPAS-Compliant iCLASS® Readers for Singapore Market
Reader increases value to CEPAS credential holders by enabling end-users to leverage a single card across multiple applications
IRVINE,Calif.– Sept. 16, 2009 – HID Global, the trusted source for solutions for the delivery of secure identity, today announced the launch of its Contactless e-Purse Application Specification (CEPAS)-compliant iCLASS® reader for the Singapore market. Designed to add value to the customer through increased functionality and user convenience, the CEPAS-compliant reader leverages HID’s iCLASS technology to unlock the potential of the CEPAS credential and enable users to utilize their card for more than transit and financial transactions, such as for access control and converged applications.
“We listened to the specific needs of customers in the Singapore market and reacted quickly with our leading iCLASS technology to provide this new series of CEPAS-compatible readers specifically to address the access control needs of customers in one of the most important markets in our region,” said Craig Sandness, managing director of HID Global’s APAC operations. “With the addition of CEPAS compliance to HID’s iCLASS technology, we are better positioned to address the growing needs of Singapore’s transportation industry by offering an interoperable and globally trusted access control solution.”
Representing a significant milestone for Singapore’s micro-payment landscape, CEPAS is the world’s first nationwide, interoperable micro-payment platform that bridges multiple sectors of the market – in particular, the transit and retail e-payment space. Spearheaded by the Infocomm Development Authority (IDA) of Singapore and collaborating with the Land Transport Authority (LTA), these two organizations have worked with the industry to develop a cashless e-payment platform that is utilized nationwide.
Within Singapore, it is expected that a large population of readers used for access control will be upgraded to comply with this new standard. “HID iCLASS is optimized for multiple applications, including physical access control, IT network secure authentication and much more,” added Sandness. “Following the launch of HID on the Desktop™ earlier this year, we have continued to provide value to customers in Singapore by enabling users to leverage their existing smart card for physical access and logical access, while also allowing them to use their existing CEPAS credential for transportation and financial payment, as well as access control.”The new HID iCLASS transit readers can also be configured to read the CEPAS card application number (CAN) or card serial number (CSN), as well as be configured to read FeliCa™ IDm and MIFARE® CSNs, providing seamless transition for customers wishing to move to new CEPAS-compliant credentials.
The CEPAS-compliant reader is also available in the form of HID’s multiCLASS™ reader and OEM module, making it simple and convenient to utilize a CEPAS credential across a wide range of applications. The CEPAS-compliant OEM module allows customers to embed HID iCLASS technology in their own existing devices for streamlined migration to a CEPAS-compliant system, while the multiCLASS reader permits users to migrate from existing Prox technologies, such as HID Prox®, Indala® and AWID.
