HID Global PACS Innovation, the Physical Access Control applied-research group of HID Global, is looking for a Principal Engineer to help drive, design, develop and innovate in the fields that touch multiple disciplines of software engineering. 


The PACS Innovation applied-research group's responsibility is to absorb and transpose research and latest technologies within demonstrable advanced proof-of-concepts that will be the basis of next generation products. Challenges such as understanding person intent in unconstrained environment, anomaly detection, indoor localization, smart-cities connectivity, smart-building optimization, and continuous contextual-and-temporal authentication are some of the topics on our todo list. 


The successful candidate will be the one who is not afraid of learning new software stacks irrespective of the platform they run on. He must be able to switch domains (embedded to servers to machine learning) easily and even if at present does not have skills in all the areas is willing to take deep dive into new domains. He should be an ardent self learner, well versed in state of art in software engineering and passionate about sharing knowledge with others.



What you will be doing

  • As an individual contributor:
    • Analyse problems and propose resolution approaches.
    • Able to design/code and own nearly all aspects of a solution.
    • Establish deliverable milestones along with risk assessment.
    • Respect deadlines. Communicate proactively and efficiently whenever unforeseen problems are affecting them.

What we are looking for  

  • 5+ years of experience with C is mandatory.
  • 5+ years of experience with any modern high level programing language (C# or C++ or Java or Swift).
  • 10+ years of experience with development on constrained devices (class 0,1 and 2).
  • All-around expertise with optimized embedded-systems development: IOs, communication wired and wireless protocols (such as I2C, SPI, TCP/IP stack, Wifi/UWB/BLE/NFC), firmware, interrupts, barebone systems, mbed/FreeRTOS/Zephir.
  • Comfortable with Linux operating system.
  • Must be at ease with Raspberry or equivalent devices.
  • Familiar with relational and non-relational databases.
  • Minimal understanding/familiarity with crypto-blocks (DES/AES/RSA/ECC), security protocols suite, and overall firmware security best practices.
  • In-depth understanding of challenges associated with real-world IoT device deployment.
  • Working experience with Python and/or Javascript.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with:
    • Devops experience (Docker, Ansible, Chef, etc..)
    • Experience with Computer Vision libraries (for ex, Nvidia, OpenCV).
    • Familiarity with Nvidia Jetson TX1/TX2/Xavier/Nano (or equivalent).
    • Familiarity with Deep Neural Networks framework (Pytorch, Tensorflow, etc..).
    • Familiar with one or more fullstack (frontend/backend) and at-scale deployment ecosystems (AWS, MS IoT HUB, GCloud).

Education and/or Experience          

  • Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, with 10+ years of experience as a firmware/software engineer in a senior role.
  • Or MS degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, with 5+ years of experience as a firmware/software engineer in a senior role.
