The role is responsible for the security of the network and administration of all network related components within our high profile IT systems located in various data centres such as firewalls, switches, F5s, load balancers, management of access control lists, IPs, VLAN segregation etc working closely with the Infrastructure Manager, third party suppliers, the information security analyst, and the compliance manager. The role will involve; managing the tools for pro-actively alerting the respective technical teams through the event and incident management processes; involvement in 1st and 2nd line support of various systems and perform timely system diagnostics and escalation, working with the technical teams to meet and exceed SLAs and KPIs together with continuous improvement schemes of both performance and process.

The successful candidates should be able to pre-empt/predict and diagnose customer impacting issues. The role is expected to produce reporting and incident dashboards and will report to the Infrastructure Manager.

Main Duties

  • Responsible for the security and administration of all network components working with monitoring and patching administrators to keep the network components up to date and secure (firewalls, switches, load balancers F5s etc) that are operated and supported by HID.
  • Supporting VA scanning using Nessus
  • Incident Management – Resolving/ eliminating /reducing client/user reported issues for all devices supported by HID, including request fulfilment, asset management, and managing and updating assigned tickets on the service management tool.
  • Provide Level 1 and 2 support for both HID and 3rd party systems 
  • Liaise with customers to resolve system issues
  • Liaise with internal teams and 3rd parties as required, supporting their Level 3 investigations into incidents/problems/requests escalated to them
  • Problem Management – assisting with the root cause analysis and determine both the best course of action for Restorations and Resolutions for incidents, and the resolution of problems.
  • Change Management - Ensuring changes to the live systems are all adequately planned, tracked, tested, documented, approved and audited with the appropriate back-out plans 
  • Knowledge Management - assisting with the generation and maintenance of all technical system and troubleshooting documentation, such as the creation of user guides, manuals etc
  • Follow standard operating procedures according to ITIL best practices, including the change management process to ensure changes to the live systems are all adequately tracked and the appropriate back-out plans are in place.
  • Provide Level 1 and 2 support for both HID and 3rd party systems 
  • Liaise with internal teams and 3rd parties as required, supporting their Level 3 investigations into incidents/problems/requests escalated to them
  • Develop a good understanding of the HID systems
  • Assist with server backups within Data Centres and within the PKI secure zone
  • Assist with the helpdesk function whenever necessary and day to day support for all technical matters in territory and to work closely with the local support company
  • Assist with the root cause analysis and determine both the best course of action for Restorations and Resolutions for incidents, and the resolution of problems.
  • Assist with maintaining and testing disaster recovery and fail-over procedures
  • Assist with the generation and maintenance of all technical system documentation. 
  • Assist with maintaining IT compliance standards and audit.
  • Assist in the support of the IT systems at the Malta factory as well as the customer facing systems. 
  • Always act and behave in a way compliant with all HID company guidelines and policies, especially those relating to Environmental Health and Safety, ethics and codes of conduct.
  • Always follow a best practise methodology such as ITIL, including good change management, event management and incident management practices while carrying out duties and actions. 
  • Some travel abroad may be required (implementation, training, FATs, UATs, SATs, CATs, occasional support visits etc) 
  • To perform the CAO and System Administrator Trusted Roles as per the Trusted Role Procedure and associated Terms of Reference, and the holding of credentials.

Essential skills / experience

  • Experience with F5s, Cisco firewalls, IPS/IDS load balancers, switches etc
  • Knowledgeable or experience of WAN, LANs, and VLANs 
  • Experience in an IT environment 
  • Experience with using remote deployment tools/ application support / patch management and/or anti-virus updates and/or back up management and/or monitoring tools.
  • Good understanding of server and workstation hardware and operating systems
  • Good troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Outstanding customer service with strong communication skills, sound judgment, negotiating, and decision making skills.

Desirable skills / experience

  • Experience with LogRythm, Solarwinds, SCOM and/or PRTG and/or WSUS tools
  • Experience in installing and configuring /administering servers and PCs 
  • Experience working in data centres and/or secure zones
  • Information Technology degree 
  • ITIL foundation certification
  • Previous experience dealing with external customers 
  • Previous experience dealing with suppliers
