The Position: What you will be doing: Summary of job

HID is the world leader in security identity and physical access control solutions including cards and readers, door controllers, parking gate controllers and software. The Engineering Director is responsible for all engineering functions and teams located in Shenzhen, China developing physical access control products under the Peake Technology brand. The qualified candidate will have excellent English speaking and writing skills and available for international travel as needed. 


What we are looking for:

Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Work collaboratively as part of the PACS Engineering Leadership Team. Is accountable for the planning and execution of the programs within the Peake business.
  • Develop a motivated, high performing, engineering team at Peake capable of innovative thinking, lean/agile development methodologies, high quality output, and strong collaboration.
  • Develop and support high volume solutions as per the introduction above, and create the ability to quickly develop proof of concepts.
  • Define and evangelize best practices for hardware and software development, test driven development, development processes including lean/agile practices and ideally SAFe methodologies (ideal).
  • Direct key architecture and infrastructure decisions in collaboration with product management based on meeting the business’s strategic and operational goals.
  • Ensure product security and data privacy requirements are met during development and validated during testing.
  • Define key performance indicators for engineering and facilitate a culture of continuous improvement through monitoring and acting on these KPI’s.
  • Provide high level test and conformance strategies.
  • Identify patent opportunities and drive patent disclosure and application submissions.
  • Communicate platform, architecture and technical vision to other company leaders.
  • Influence product strategy and roadmap.
  • Create an atmosphere with the management team that supports and enable talent development while ensuring accountability and follow through within the team.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Mandarin is required, any other language is a plus.
  • Experience with hardware product development practices and needed skillsets
  • Experience with developing products to meet regulatory compliance requirements within China (and potentially broader Asia ideally)
  • Experience leading software team developing cloud hosted applications and API/SDK offerings.
  • Minimum of 5 years of increasing managerial experience with ability to turn-around team’s performance and engagement by leading by example.
  • Experience leading the development and publication of mobile applications for both IOS and Androi OS’s.
  • Experience leading the development of embedded linux solutions.
  • Experience with Agile and Waterfall development processes and methodologies.
  • Experience leading (and ideally setting up) end to end DevOps processes for continuous integration and continuous deployment through production operations for cloud/SaaS platforms.
  • Technical fluency; comfort understanding and discussing architectural concepts, schedule tradeoffs, and new opportunities with technical team members.
  • Experience with modern team collaboration tools and processes.
  • Experience with release management and deployment workflow processes.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with a proven ability to build productive cross-­departmental relationships and motivate team members. Positive, can-do attitude and value collaboration a must.
  • Solid leadership and management experience, including strategic thinking, innovation, coaching and mentoring, scaling and collaboration.
  • Ability to work cross functionally and collaboratively to achieve desired business results.
  • Experience in working in a global environment which allow you to be culturally aware.


Education and/or Experience

  • Minimum BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or similar technical discipline. MS or PhD desired. 10+ years of product development experience with 3+ years in a Director of Engineering position leading a medium sized multidisciplined development organization.


Language Skills        

  • Communication skills are critical in this position. Candidate must be able to communicate complicated ideas to all levels management and staff, and understand how to tailor messages based on audience. Must be able to author technical specifications. English proficiency is a must.


Computer Skills

  • Familiarity of modern design tools for software/hardware development, DevOps, and workflow/defect management. Proficiency in modern collaboration tools such as MS Teams, Confluence, etc. Proficiency in typical Microsoft Office products.
