The HID Academy training team strives to provide its customers with world-class training for the extensive HID product portfolio. The Academy supports product and solution offerings in Physical Access Control, Secure Issuance, Identity and Access Management and other HID product segments. The Academy team is a key component of the Genuine HID value proposition, and is critical to the success of HID customers.

As part of the company’s efforts to ensure the success of its worldwide employees and to support the enablement and certification of its channel partners and customers, HID Global is seeking an Instructional Designer who will help develop learning material that is graphically engaging, interactive, consistent, creative, and incorporates game-based learning principles, in order to deliver a best-in-class digital learning experience.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Academy Managers and Content Developers as well as HID cross-functional teams to understand learning priorities and challenges, and convert these into improvements to the Academy learning programs.

The candidate will create and maintain digital learning templates, and explore and implement novel learning elements and formats. The learning elements should be extensible, reusable and leverage advanced learning & development techniques when applicable. The candidate will work directly on training materials developed by Academy Content Developers to add creative design elements and ensure the final training content is representative of the Academy standard. This work may also include proofreading, video production and voiceover. The candidate will serve as a learning advisor for other Academy team members and cross-train them as necessary.

Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Ensure outstanding learning experience that is to the highest quality and strategically aligned with business objectives and the roles and expectations of the training audience
  • Evaluate current state of Academy digital learning experience and strive to optimize the user experience
  • Identify and analyze the needs and gaps of the learner and translate these into appropriate instructional objectives, learning methods and techniques
  • Work closely with Academy Content Developers to deliver engaging, high-quality digital learning experience
  • Work closely with Academy Managers to assess training program effectiveness, seek new opportunities to drive value
  • Review existing training materials and advise team members on how to conform to instructional design elements and industry best practices
  • Think outside of the box by frequently seeking to elevate the status quo; investigate industry best practices and/or innovative ways for continuous improvement
  • Research and implement eLearning tools to maximize training effectiveness and support the course objectives and learner outcomes
  • Actively use training metrics and learner data to assess training effectiveness and impact; develop action plans when necessary
  • Work with HID Creative Services & Marketing teams to ensure training templates and material align with branding and guidelines
  • Facilitate collaborative, cross-functional decision-making processes

Education and/or Experience          

  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in instructional design or educational field
  • 3+ years of instructional design experience with 3-5 years developing eLearning 
  • Experience implementing gamification concepts into training
  • Exceptional presentation skills, both oral and written
  • Knowledge of learning and training principles
  • Proficiency with storyboarding, scripting and screen casting for screen captures and voiceovers
  • Self-motivated, proactive, flexible and organized to meet goals in a timely manner
  • Working experience in a technology company is a plus

Language Skills                   

  • Must be a native English speaker

Computer Skills     

  • Proficient use of eLearning authoring tools such as Storyline Articulate, Camtasia and/or Captivate to create interactive, SCORM-compliant, web-based learning content
  • Fluent in developing multimedia elements to support eLearning and mobile learning experience (graphics, video, audio, etc.)
  • Experience with variety of training methods including webcasts, video, and social media
  • Experience creating, editing, synchronizing and/or recording both audio and video for eLearning courses
  • Experience developing curricula and eLearning materials for virtual and self-paced learning
  • Knowledge of mobile learning best practices
  • Experience and proficiency using a Learning Management System (LMS). Experience with Cornerstone on Demand LMS is a plus
  • Experience with animation and post-production applications (Flash or After-Effects) is a plus
  • Proficient in MS Office applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Ability to use project management tools

  • Experience in developing a portfolio of training content that demonstrates the ability to keep the learner interested and engaged via methods such as gamification, interactive and creative graphical design elements
  • Experience in developing professional multimedia content and using authoring tools to create eLearning modules and instructional videos
  • Experience creating and maintaining a training instructional design program that scales to a broader team
  • Proven successful track record in educating customers and partners on technical or technological topics
  • Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to wade through complex material, develop well-organized outlines and write clearly, succinctly and to-the-point
  • Ability to develop strategies, action plans, and metrics to monitor results
  • Exceptional ability to build rapport across a wide range of cultures and personalities
  • Passion for working with others; strong and effective communicator
