The ideal candidate will be both an effective leader and a hands-on contributor who is highly engaged in assisting with the planning, organizing, directing, coordinating, and controlling all activities related to the operations of the Quality Assurance (QA) department.  This includes QA and Change Control process and implementation, tool selection, personnel hiring and management, liaison to other departments and delivery of high-quality products while meeting aggressive schedules, on budget and within specifications. 

What you will be doing 

  • Hiring and oversight of the QA personnel. This includes delegation of duties, task management, mentoring/skill development, and performance measurement and evaluation. 

  • Managing the strategic and tactical goals, policies, and procedures for the QA Department, under direction of the Chief Information Officer (CIO). 

  • Managing the testing efforts towards meeting key delivery dates (Change Control phases) and providing status reports (as needed) to the CIO, Product, and Development teams following standard quality assurance practices, including the creation/maintenance of test strategies, test plans, test cases, and automated testing development. 

  • Developing, maintaining, and executing testing documenting documentation/scripts for user interface, functional, accessibility, regression and “ad-hoc” testing. 

  • Managing personnel, tools, processes, testing and schedules for Software and Infrastructure Change Controls. 

  • Continually updating approved collaboration web sites to disseminate, organize, and maintain testing and Change Control related duties, while encouraging discussion and participation. 

  • Providing Level 3 Customer Support to Business Operations (Help Desk/Registration) and being the liaison between departments (as needed) for software defects and help troubleshoot customer issues. 

  • Interfacing with Business Operations, PKI, Delivery, and Product to support goals and objectives. 

  • Administering and efficiently tracking and reporting defects with company-wide Bug Tracking Tool. 

  • Managing and overseeing all Change Control Administration duties. 

  • Recommending application improvements in meetings with Product, Business Operations and Development 

  • Identifying processes improvement to help with efficiencies in the QA Department and possible other areas of Operations. 

  • Working closely with our Systems Engineering, Product, and Development team in ensuring overall product release schedules are met while meeting quality goals and standards. 

  • Performing proper internal communications for changes and scheduling of Change Controls. 

  • Identifying and raising risk factors to the Risk Management Committee for mitigation.  

  • Helping to enforce Change Management policies and procedures. 

What we are looking for      

  • Advanced education ideally in computer science/similar, or equivalent testing and work experience 

  • 3+ years of professional experience, ideally related to software testing and quality assurance 

  • Some experience in software testing, project management, requirements definition, and quality assurance in a variety of industries, including, financial services, government, utilities, and e-Business 

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a track record of motivating and developing team leaders and team players.  

  • Excels in fast-paced, dynamic environments (very aggressive timelines and change control windows) 

  • Experience through process and procedure building, hiring, cross training, and skills building, creating a team of professional testers. 

  • Experience with the Waterfall and Agile Methodologies 

  • Proficient in all Microsoft Business tools (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) 

  • Some experience with Windows/Mac/Unix/Linux operating systems and major browsers. 

  • Experience with QA Tools such as, Bugzilla, Selenium, SilkTest, Jmeter, and Sortsite. 

  • Some experience with SQL queries 

  • Hands-on experience with quality assurance practices, including test strategies, test plans, test cases, and established test automation development. 

  • Detail oriented, demonstrates strong organizational and delegation skills and is efficient/effective management of one’s own and team member’s time. 

  • Creative problem-solving skills with planning, efficiencies and scheduling that focuses on a timely delivery and quality. 

  • Experience in helping to maintain and comply with software development life cycle (SDLC) and test methodologies. 

  • Trustworthy and reliable candidate that works well with people; inspires, motivates, collaborates, holds accountable, and disciplines, if necessary 

  • Excellent troubleshooting skills with applications, equipment and situations.
