Senior DevOps Engineer- UK (Basingstoke)


Location: The DevOps person will be required to travel to Basingstoke office on a regular bases.


The Software Development function provides mature Agile development services for multiple stakeholders, supporting a range of key software products across the business. As a DevOps Engineer the applicant will be responsible for ensuring that the cogs continue to turn on the continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) systems, across all product development teams. In addition, the DevOps Engineers in ID Global Solutions are responsible for ensuring that their CI/CD process is transferrable out of the business in support of On-premise software installations. As part of the wider software operations function the DevOps engineer will also assist in managing the engagement of the software division (SD) with the wider ecosystem across the company.


Duties and Responsibilities include the following/ Qualifications

The individual will be responsible for the delivery, development, administration, monitoring, and metrics in the following areas:

  • Provision of Development Computing facilities and service to internal customers of the SD function.
  • Enable agility through development, provision and support of platforms and solutions that support R&D and innovation within SD function.
  • Support Software Development services including continuous Integration (CI) and Continuous Deployment (CD) systems
  • Supporting SD areas with technical expertise at a script / code level, enabling rapid delivery of prototype and early solutions.
  • Support the engagement of the function through defined tools and processes.
  • Provide implementation services to take CD developed process to external customer sites, often where systems are deployed On-Premise.


Education and/or Experience          

  • Educated to degree level in software engineering or computer science, or have equivalent experience

Language Skills                   

  • Ability to effectively communicate in the English language, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical journals, specifications, international technical standards, etc.              


Highly desirable, but not essential skills are:

  • Knowledge of Linux operating systems e.g. RHEL/OpenShift;
  • ELK stack reporting systems, Graphana/InfluxDB or similar;
  • Understanding of network topologies and common network protocols and services;
  • Knowledge of security best practices and tools;
  • Experience of Windows & Linux containers and orchestration platforms (Docker, Kubernetes) · NodeJS, Angular, React;
  • MS Test or other unit testing frameworks, mocking framework;
  • Experience of working in an Agile/Scrum environment


Customer Expectations/ Work Environment

Our DevOps function is required to cover a wide range of skills supporting product CI/CD to implementation of software products at customer sites. An individual who could cover the entire range would be ideal.

  • Extensive experience administering CI systems, creating build configurations and pipelines (VSTS/Azure DevOps, Node.js, NuGet, MSBuild, Nexus, Octopus Deploy, Dotnet Core);
  • Experience administering version control systems such as VSTS / Git;
  • Familiarity with Microsoft .NET development environment, Visual Studio, VSCode;
  • Strong scripting skills (PowerShell, Python, Ruby), software development skills using C# .NET required but not essential;
  • Experience of using provisioning tools and scripting libraries (Terraform, Vagrant, PowerCLI, Azure CLI);
  • Experience of using configuration management tools (PowerShell DSC, Ansible etc.);
  • Experience of cloud technologies (primarily Azure but also AWS), and of migrating on-premise infrastructure to the cloud or hybrid cloud in combination of VMWare/Azure technologies;
