Wayfinding Indoor Positioning System
A GPS-like, turn-by-turn guidance solution used in buildings and campuses.
Indoor Navigation App for Patients, Customers and Visitors
Whether in healthcare, retail, government or any service-based industry, confusion as to where to go can lead to missed/late appointments, increased frustration and lost productivity. HID’s Indoor Positioning System (IPS) works much like a GPS that’s customized for your facility.

Bluetooth® Wireless Technology-Based Positioning App
Our indoor/outdoor wayfinding system, formerly offered by HID acquisition, Everbridge, is part of our IoT Real-Time Location Systems (RTLS) suite. The wayfinding system combines powerful location-identification software interacting with readers and gateways strategically spaced throughout a building or campus.
The result is a user friendly, step-by-step, turn-by-turn mapping of where to go from the parking lot to the appointment. Users can interact with the system via a downloadable application (iOS or Android) on their mobile device, a web-based version or on kiosks located throughout the facility.
And like a GPS, patients and other users will be notified if they are off track with audio or text prompts. Unlike GPS, location is as precise as 1-2 meters and can detect what floor a person is on rather than just providing an aerial view. This all adds up to a better patient/customer experience and a more efficient workplace. Specifically:
- Fewer missed or late appointments
- Customized flows to avoid potential bottlenecks
- Support of social-distancing policies
- Less reliance on staff to provide directions
How Does the Digital Wayfinding System Work?
Take the case of a hospital or other healthcare facility. We have patients covered from before they even arrive. The appointment confirmation will include a link to access the wayfinding system. From there they are assisted with:
Parking
Directions
Meeting Others
Location-Specific Alerts
Departure
This is all done without tracking any personal or identity information. Once the patient has left the campus, the tracking capabilities are gone.
Indoor GPS Compatible With Major Infrastructure Systems
Our system is compatible with all sorts of infrastructures — be they EHR systems, appointment-scheduling apps or networking leaders — from providers including Cisco, Centrak, Mist/Juniper, Siemens/Enlightened and HP/Aruba, to name a few.
